Taking Part in an Event?

Are you someone who enjoys a challenge!

If you run, cycle, swim or like getting muddy then we would appreciate it greatly if you would consider fundraising for Alderbrook school with Marjorie Willis at the same time.

The easiest way to do this is to set up your own fundraising page, linked to Marjorie Willis.

A big thank you for fundraising for Alderbrook School with Marjorie Willis.

Having your own donation page with the information about your event or activity is a good way to help your sponsors follow what you do.

This is a brief guide on how to set up and update your personal donation page.

There are two options – Give as You Live Donate and Wonderful.

We recommend Give as You Live Donate.

Give as you live is easier to set up and supports donations by cards.
Wonderful only supports donations by bank app and works with well known cycling and running apps to show progress.

Give as You Live

This is our recommended solution – it is easy to set up – Just follow the steps below.

1. Sign up to Give as you Live.  They just need your email address.
   You can also raise funds at no cost with your online shopping.
2. Click the Create a Fundraising Page link at the top of the page.
3. It asks if you are taking part in an organised event.
   1. Select Yes if it is a well known event and find it in the list.
   2. Otherwise Select No and Continue
4. Next choose the Charity – Select Marjorie Willis if shown. Otherwise enter ABK and search, then select Marjorie Willis, then click Support Us.
5. On Your selected Charity Popup, click Continue
6. The next set of pages starts with Tell us a bit about your page here, you enter the details for your fundraising page.

Copy the link to your Fundraising page and share it with your Family and Friends.
You can always return and update the page, or add updates and photos.

Wonderful

We are using Wonderful.org, which is a great fundraising platform that lets you create a donation page for the event or activity you are doing.  It supports a good range of event types.
One you have set up your page, you can easily share it with friends and family via email and social media. When they donate, you will see the donations and can respond to and thank supporters.

You can also post regular updates on your progress – for example how training is going and have a countdown to the big day.

You can select the type of event and if you are doing a run or walk, you can link it with the Strava app to automatically show your progress.

Collecting Donations – Open Banking?

Wonderful.org collects donations using Open Banking – it uses your supporters banking app or online banking system.
Unfortunately, this may not suit all your sponsors.

The simple solution is to include a link to an alternative payment page in your event description, for those who want to donate by Card or PayPal.

Let us know about your event and we will set up a dedicated payment page and provide you with a link you can include on your Wonderful page. (We do this on our main page on Wonderful).

(In the page editor include the text “To donate by card or PayPal, Click Here”.
Highlight “Click Here” click the Link Icon and paste in the link we will provide you E.g. https://www.nowdonate.com/checkout/5f13g3e04k35csg3f1lu ).

We will let you know about any card or PayPal donations, which you can add to your page as updates, along with any messages of support.

Setting up your Wonderful Page

You will need a nice mugshot for your profile page and an image that showcases your event.
We can help with this as well as images for social media*.

When the page set up prompts for the charity, search for MARJORIE WILLIS. It should be straightforward, however we are more than happy to help you with it.

(*We use Canva.com and have access to lots of images, we can add text and we can provide copies in different sizes for use in social media).

A few things to note:

• There are different activity types supported.
• You need an image to promote your event
• The Sharing Buttons make it easy to share with friends and family
• Include your photo in your profile
• Include a link for those wishing to donate by card or PayPal
• You can post updates – how the training is going, how you got on
• You can thank your supporters and reply to their messages.

Promoting your event

You can promote it yourself by using the sharing buttons on the page.
We can also promote it via the charity website and social media.

If associated with school, we can include it in school communications.

We are currently looking into providing sports shirts with the charity details on.
We will need your size information and enough time to get it ordered.
